As Demorest grapples with the fate of its fire department, Cornelia is ushering in a new era for its department.
Construction on Cornelia’s new Fire Station No. 2 located at 964 South Main Street is complete. The department will begin staffing the station effective at 8 a.m. Monday, January 25.
The city has run all emergency calls out of its North Fire Station No. 22 since construction began on Cornelia’s new Municipal Complex in April of 2019.
“Now that the new station is complete, we will resume normal operations,” says Cornelia City Manager Donald “Dee” Anderson. “The Cornelia Fire Department would like to thank all our citizens for their patience and understanding during this project. This new facility will enable us to better serve the community.”
Once the station opens, Anderson says there will be two firefighters on duty at both fire stations 24 hours per day.
