White Christmas

The Mauldin House Visitors Center in Clarkesville was bathed in Christmas lights as snow dusted the ground Christmas Eve.

A white Christmas was more than a dream for many this year in North Georgia. Snow fell in the mountains and foothills, leaving a dusting in Habersham and accumulating snow at higher elevations including Hiawassee and Blairsville.

Snow flurries were reported in metro Atlanta on Christmas Eve, with some reaching as far south as Fayette County.

The Winter Weather Advisory that was in effect for extreme North Georgia has expired, but flurries are expected to continue through the day as bitterly cold, subfreezing temperatures linger.

Today’s high won’t break above freezing and gusty winds up to 20-25 MPH are possible, making it feel even colder in North Georgia.

Temperatures across the state will warm up a bit on Saturday as the air mass begins to moderate.

Blustery winds whipped around holiday flags and blew the snow on the ground outside Clarkesville’s Fire Department.
