William Bascom Echols, age 93 of Lula, Georgia, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016.
Mr. Echols was born in Hall County on August 23, 1922 to the late Jane Brock and William Duncan Echols. He attended Belton Baptist Church and was a retired painter. Mr. Echols was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Ruth Staten Echols; son-in-law, H.T. Jackson; and daughter-in-law, June Echols. Mr. Echols was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth T. Collins Echols of Lula; daughters, Sarah Echols Jackson of Gainesville, Sheila (Wayne) Ansley of Cornelia; sons, Keith (Beth) Echols of Gainesville, Ken Echols of Cumming; step-son, Larry (Susan) Thomas of Lula; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 17. 2016 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Rev. Johnny Stone officiating. Interment will follow in the Belton Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the funeral home.
