(Cleveland)- The Georgia High School Football Daily newsletter has selected White County Warriors as their team of the week for their impressive 50-47 win last Friday over #8 Hart County in Class 3A. It was White County’s first victory over a top-10 team on the road since 1983 when they beat Oconee County.
The team was presented with the award Wednesday at White County High School. The Warriors were chosen for the honor out of 400 teams around the state.
“The fact that our county gets recognized and our team has a bunch of guys who are humble and do what it takes to win, that’s the honor to me,” White County Coach Tim Cokely said in an interview with WRWH Radio. “It’s a plaque, it’s a trophy but I think it’s more than that. It’s representative of a great community that’s behind its team and a team that plays for its community.”
White County ranked in an AJC poll for the first time since 1972.
