White County Fire Services receives fire prevention grant

FM Global representatives recently presented the award to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy at the Emergency Operations Center in Cleveland.

White County Fire Services has received a $3,000 fire prevention grant from FM Global, one of the world’s largest commercial property insurers. The grant will be used to assist with pre-incident planning to efficiently collect and track data on local community buildings. The information is meant to help firefighters respond in an emergency.

According to FM Global, fire is the leading cause of property damage worldwide. The company says, over the past forty years, it has contributed millions of dollars in fire prevention grants to organizations around the globe, including several Georgia-based organizations.

“At FM Global, we strongly believe the majority of property damage is preventable, not inevitable,” says assistant vice president Michael Spaziani – manager of the Fire Prevention Grant Program. “Far too often, inadequate budgets prevent those organizations working to prevent fire from being as proactive as they would like to be. With additional financial support, grant recipients are actively helping to improve property risk in the communities they serve.”

The company awards grants to fire departments and other organizations that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on preventing fire, or mitigating the damage it causes.
