Walter Curtis “Billy” Phillips age 84 of Mount Airy, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.
Born in Madison, South Carolina on August 06, 1938, he was the son of the late Fred and Nellie Jones Phillips. Billy served his country proudly in the United States Army during the end of the Korean Conflict as a driver for the Company Commander. He retired as a supervisor in the construction industry. In his spare time, Billy enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, trail biking, camping with his family, and was an avid lover of fast shiny cars. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Tiny.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Gaynell Matheson Phillips of Mount Airy, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Allen Shedd of Mount Airy, GA; Billie Jo and Duval Carter of the Turnerville Community, Clarkesville, GA; Sequeena & Mark Nobles of Lehigh Acres, FL; sister, Jean Smith of Westminster, SC; 5 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives, & friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2022, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville with Rev. Amanda Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Gardens Cemetery with Rev. John Anderson officiating at the graveside. Military honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
