Vera Mae Kinsey Shelnut, age 87, of Alto, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at her residence following an extended illness.
Born on April 8, 1936, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late William Lester Kinsey and Mary Elzoria McCallister Kinsey. Vera was retired from Ethicon with 19 ½ years of service and had previously worked at Mt. Vernon Mills. She loved the Lord and her family. She was of the Holiness faith. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter Lamar Shelnut; brothers, Homer J. D. Kinsey and William David Kinsey; sisters, Gertrude Kinsey and Evelyn Genevia Kinsey Chosewood; and grandson, Jake Walter Roberts.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Della Armour, Deborah Roberts (Jack), all of Clarkesville, and Regina Rylee of Alto; brothers, Waymon J. B. “Curly” Kinsey of Clarkesville and Roy Lee Kinsey of Gainesville; sister, Willie Mae Kinsey Hooper of Demorest; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, six nieces, and nine nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 2, 2023, in the Chapel of McGahee ~ Griffin & Stewart, with Rev. Mickey Umbehant officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the funeral home.
