Update: Final cost of care hearing scheduled

(Now Habersham)

A final Cost of Care hearing in the animal hoarding case against Clarence and Teresa Bramblett has been set.

The hearing is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 13, at 9:00 a.m. in Habersham County State Court.

Next Wednesday’s hearing will come exactly five months after the initial April 13-14 seizure of over 400 animals from Clarence and Teresa Bramblett’s property near Clarkesville.

The Bramblett’s forfeited their rights to all but 29 pet dogs.

The county is asking reimbursement for the care provided to the animals while they’ve been on court hold. From April 15 to August 8, the county stated it had incurred a cost of $37,580.90 for dogs’ care. They also stated the animals’ care would additionally cost $47,582.90 for the 30 days afterward.

The defense has aimed to discredit the county’s claim by addressing issues with the legality of search warrants, timeliness of filings, and alleged false accusations of maltreatment.

The case is being heard by State Court Judge Steve Campbell.
