Trustees of Truett McConnell University in Cleveland are expected to announce on Friday a decision about how the university will move forward after an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct at the school. At issue is whether Dr. Emir Caner, currently suspended, will be reinstated as the school’s president. The Board of Trustees met Thursday with the outside investigator they hired to look into accusations of sexual abuse and administrative misconduct.
Several former staffers and students accused Caner of turning a blind eye to accusations against his friend and former colleague, ex-Vice President Bradley Reynolds. Former student-athlete and staff member Hayle Swinson alleges Reynolds abused his position of power as a college administrator and spiritual advisor to groom and sexually abuse her.
The trustees hired Richard Hyde to investigate the school’s handling of the matter. Hyde, of Phoenix Research, LLC in Atlanta, is also affiliated with a prominent Atlanta law firm. He told Now Habersham he would present his findings to the Board at their meeting on September 25.
Reporters were not allowed into that meeting, as campus security guards and local police stood outside restricting access.
The trustees announced through a spokesperson that they will hold a 10 a.m. press conference in Odell Sanctuary on Friday, September 26. During the press conference, the trustees will provide an update regarding the third-party investigation and any actions taken as a result.
