Strong front mid-week

A strong cold front is expected to bring heavy rain on Tuesday night.

We’ll start the week off with warming temperatures ahead of our next major cold front. Highs on Monday will reach to near 60º once again under sunny skies.

Clouds will be on the increase starting Tuesday as the front approaches. A severe weather outbreak is expected over parts of Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, but all indications are any storms will be much weaker by the time they arrive here in North Georgia. Winds will be stout from the southwest on Tuesday with gusts of 20-25MPH possible.

The showers and storms will arrive overnight Tuesday, most likely in the pre-sunrise hours of Wednesday morning. This late arrival will allow for a great deal of weakening, although with no strong wedge of cool air in place there is some potential for strong to severe storms to produce gusty winds and small hail. The storms will move out early Wednesday with high temperatures reaching back into the 60s. Winds will turn very gusty behind the front, however, with gusts of 35-40MPH possible. A Wind Advisory will likely be issued for Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday will be much colder behind the front under sunny skies. Our next weather maker will approach on Friday spreading clouds out ahead with early indications of a cold rain for next weekend.

Have a great week and stay tuned for the latest on the strong to severe storm threat Tuesday night.
