The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for North and Central Georgia due to dry, windy weather conditions. The warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 1.
“The combination of gusty winds, low humidity, and dry fuels makes it extremely easy for fires to start and spread uncontrollably,” a White County Public Safety Department press release states. Fire officials warn that even a “small spark from equipment, a discarded cigarette, or a dragging trailer chain could ignite a brush fire, putting lives and property at risk.”
Due to the elevated risk of wildfires, officials are urging people to refrain from outdoor burning until weather conditions improve.
