Three women were arrested Saturday night after a shoplifting incident at the Clarkesville Package Store turned into an alleged assault on one of the store’s clerks.

Clarkesville police are investigating the felony shoplifting incident, which occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on March 29.

According to store employees, the three female suspects, all of whom were wearing medical scrubs and medical masks, came into the store and attempted to shoplift several bottles of alcohol. When confronted, one of the suspects allegedly assaulted a store clerk by kicking him and striking him in the head with a bag containing a stolen bottle of alcohol. The suspects fled in a black Nissan Versa. As one of the suspects left the parking lot, she swerved toward the store clerk, police said.

Clarkesville police say the store clerks provided a description of the suspects and their vehicle along with a tag number. Habersham County Dispatch issued a lookout alert for the vehicle. With the help of the information provided by the store clerks, Habersham County Sheriff’s deputies located the suspects’ vehicle in the area of the Tom Arrendale Interchange. They conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and detained the occupants. The vehicle was impounded and a search revealed several thousand dollars’ worth of stolen alcohol and illegal narcotics, according to police.

Investigators say they believe the suspects may be linked to multiple thefts across North Georgia, including Baldwin and Toccoa. The investigation is ongoing and Clarkesville PD is reaching out to other jurisdictions for information.

On Monday, March 31, authorities released the suspects’ names and the charges against them. All three are in their teens and are from Florida. Police identified them as Ja’naysia Anderson, 18, and Jade Stewart, 19, both of St. Petersburg and Amiah Lovette, 17, of Ruskin.
