North Georgia and the Carolinas are bracing for the possibility of severe weather heading into the weekend.
The National Weather Service says scattered severe storms with damaging winds and large hail could impact the area beginning late Thursday afternoon. The most widespread showers and storms will occur late Thursday night.
Damaging straight-line winds up to 60 mph and quarter-size hail will be the main threats with these storms. More widespread wind damage could occur if an organized line of storms develops.
This graphic from NWS shows a “Slight Risk” area shaded in yellow where most of the severe storms are expected.
Forecasters say if a more organized line of storms moves into the area, more widespread swaths of damaging wind may materialize.
The NWS has not issued any watches or warnings at this time.
