Samuel (Sammy) Lee Hooks was born on January 20th, 1956, in McRae, Georgia. He married the love of his life, Ellen, on July 25th, 1973, at the age of 17. He did anything needed to provide for his family of four and spent 33 years working at Rock, Tenn. Not only did he work hard to provide for his family’s physical needs, but he was a very fun, devoted, compassionate and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Some of the things he enjoyed doing with his family were camping, fishing, watching the Georgia Bulldogs, and playing cards. He was the ultimate “Jack of all Trades.” There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix, and he loved to work on antique cars. Anyone that knew him was amazed at his strength and determination. He fought many medical complications throughout his life. From a kidney transplant at the age of 33 to open heart surgery and recovery from a stroke, he was a fighter. He continued to fight through a diagnosis of melanoma cancer that spread to many parts of his body. He was surrounded by family as the Lord called him home on April 22nd at Northeast Georgia Medical Center at the age of 67, just 3 months short of his and Ellen’s 50th wedding anniversary.
Sammy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Buford & Ettie Lee Rowe Hooks; brothers, Russell Hooks, Billy Hooks, David Hooks, & Daniel Hooks.
He is survived by his wife (Ellen Hooks), son (Kyle Hooks), daughter (Tori Kelly), daughter-n-law (Kiley Hooks), son-in-law (Charlie Kelly), and grandchildren: Andrew, Kaitlin, Kaden, Micah, Noah, Khloe and Joy Anna, his brothers Roger and Randolph, and many nieces and nephews.
