The GBI arrested a Rabun County man and charged him with three counts of sexual exploitation of children.
Agents accused Aaron Andrews, 37, of possessing child pornography. Law enforcement took him into custody on Wednesday, June 17, following an investigation by the GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit (CEACC).
Investigators say Andrews was sharing suspected child pornography files online, prompting the investigation. The Rabun County Sheriff’s Office and Clayton Police Department helped agents search his residence and take him into custody.
Officers booked Andrews into the Rabun County Jail.
Internet Crimes Against Children crackdown
This investigation is part of an ongoing effort by the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) to identify those involved in the child pornography trade. The GBI has arrested at least four other Northeast Georgia men for similar crimes this year. Since forming in 2008, the task force has arrested over 1,600 people in Georgia.
The Georgia ICAC Task Force is made up of GBI agents and personnel from over 220 affiliated law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies in the state.
The U. S. Department of Justice created the ICAC Program in response to the increasing number of children and teenagers using the Internet. The program is designed to stop the proliferation of child pornography and help protect children and youth from online predators.
In addition to law enforcement, education is a key component of the ICAC program. Any church, school, or civic group may request an age-appropriate Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship presentation by completing a form online at http://www.gaicactaskforce.com/request-a-presentation.html.
Anyone with information about children who are being exploited should contact the GBI’s CEACC Unit at 404-270-8870 or through the Cyber Tipline at https://www.missingkids.org/gethelpnow/cybertipline.
