
A joint investigation by Towns County and Clay County drug investigators led to the arrest of two Gainesville residents during a traffic stop on Highway 66 on Tuesday, May 6, according to the Towns County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities conducted the stop as part of an ongoing investigation and developed probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, investigators allegedly recovered methamphetamine, marijuana, and a firearm was also allegedly found in the possession of one of the suspects.
Emily Joanne Smith, 32, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including: felony possession of methamphetamine, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon during the commission of a crime, felony possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit a crime and misdemeanor possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.
Enoch Franklin Smith, 39, was also arrested and charged with: felony possession of methamphetamine and felony providing false information to law enforcement
According to authorities, investigators later discovered that both individuals had active warrants in Clay County, North Carolina, for motor vehicle theft. Additional warrants for Enoch Franklin Smith are also active in Hall County.
Both suspects remain in custody with holds placed for the outstanding warrants in Clay and Hall counties.
