New medical plaza opens in Dawsonville

Northeast Georgia Health System opened its new Medical Plaza 2 of GA 400 in Dawsonville on Monday, March 18, 2024.

Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) opened its second Medical Plaza in Dawsonville this week.

Northeast Georgia Physicians Group OB/GYN began seeing patients on the second floor, and the remaining practices in the building will open following the Grand Opening celebration planned for this Saturday, March 23, from 9 – 11 a.m., a press release from NGHS said.

“We’re thrilled to offer more appointments and expanded services here in Dawsonville,” said Daniel Tuffy, president and chief administrative officer for Northeast Georgia Physicians Group (NGPG). “With the April opening of the new Northeast Georgia Medical Center Lumpkin just 8 miles north of Medical Plaza 2, patients needing surgery will be able to both see their doctors and have surgery close to home.”

The public is invited to attend the medical plaza’s grand opening on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The three-story, 35,800-square-foot building – easily visible from GA 400 and located beside Medical Plaza 1 – is expected to accommodate 100,000 visits this year.

Medical Plaza 2 will be home to the Georgia Heart Institute, NGPG Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, NGPG OB/GYN, and a new, larger urgent care facility.

NGMC adds more resident physicians

In addition to the new facilities that are opening, NGHS announced this week it is adding more resident physicians to its staff.

The newest class of residents arrives this summer. They span seven specialties and will increase the number of residents in each specialty to:
30 General Surgery
60 Internal Medicine
36 Family Medicine
36 Emergency Medicine
18 Psychiatry
12 Transitional Year
8 Primary Care Track

NGMC also has 18 Cardiovascular Disease fellows and two Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellows working and training, bringing the total number of physician learners to 220. All new residents and fellows begin work on July 1.

The Office of Graduate Medical Education at Northeast Georgia Medical Center celebrated Match Day on Friday, March 15. That’s the day the hospital learned which residents would be joining their ranks in July. (Northeast Georgia Health System photo)
