A Greenville County, South Carolina, man has been found safe after missing for nearly a week. 66-year-old Mark Wagnon was found Saturday afternoon at around 3:15 p.m. by a volunteer search group, according to a news release from Oconee County Emergency Services Director Scott Krein.

Wagnon was found about half a mile from where his car was located late Thursday morning, approximately 11 miles east of Rabun County, Georgia. Director Krein says Wagnon was near the Foothills Trail, in a valley near a creek, but not on a trail.

Wagnon disappeared on August 19. Officials said they believed he may have been traveling to Northeast Georgia. After locating his vehicle, Oconee County Emergency Services established a unified command at Oconee State Park to search for him.

Krein says Wagnon had a few minor injuries, was confused, and dehydrated, but otherwise was in good condition and talking. After being rescued, he was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) had earlier issued an endangered person advisory for Wagnon, saying he needed medical attention for issues affecting his memory.

Multiple agencies, including the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, SLED, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, South Carolina State Parks, and the U.S. Forest Service, were involved in the search.
