The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced that GA 197 North, near Batesville, will close for repairs to a cross-drain culvert on Sunday, August 25.

The repairs are expected to take between two and eight hours, beginning at 8 p.m.

According to Habersham County Public Information Officer Rob Moore, the detour will take travelers on county roads, connecting them to GA 197.

Northbound traffic on GA 197 will turn right onto Watts Mill Road, continuing between Blackhawk Trophy Flyfishing and Mark of the Potter. Then, the detour will take drivers left onto Raper Mountain Road, returning to GA 197 near the old Wikle Store.

Southbound traffic on GA 197 will turn left onto Raper Mountain Road, then right onto Watts Mill Road back to return to GA 197.

The cross-drain repair was originally slated for June, but the Georgia Department of Transportation delayed the project. GDOT District 1 Communications Officer Elizabeth Johnson says certain things needed to be put in place in advance.

“Habersham County Emergency Services and the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office are aware of the closure and are prepared to respond to homes and businesses in the area as needed,” says Moore.
