Memorial Day events in and around Northeast Georgia

Banks and government offices will be closed on Monday, and many people will be traveling this Memorial Day. But behind the fun and busyness of this long holiday weekend is its somber significance.

Communities across the country will hold ceremonies, concerts, parades, and other events to honor the U.S. military men and women who lost their lives serving our nation. Here’s a list of some of the events scheduled in and around Northeast Georgia to honor them.

  • Memorial Service 9 a.m. at the Memorial Plaza at the Franklin County Courthouse at 9592 Lavonia Road in Carnesville.

Gwinnett County

Habersham County

Hall County

Hart County

  • Memorial Day Ceremony 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park on the courthouse square at 185 West Franklin Street in Hartwell.

Rabun County

  • Memorial Day Ceremony 11 a.m. at the Rabun County Courthouse located at 25 Courthouse Square in Clayton.

Stephens County

White County

  • Memorial Day Program 9 a.m. Freedom Park in downtown Cleveland, hosted by the Roy Head Post #16 of the American Legion.
  • Memorial Day Ceremony 9:30 a.m. at Helen Veterans Park at 726 Brucken Strasse, hosted by the Northeast Georgia Veterans Society.
