Lorna Landers Long Reece, age 87, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Ms. Reece was born on March 27, 1931, in Cornelia, Georgia; a daughter of the late Sanford and Lottie Landers. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Faith Long and brother, Thurman Landers. Ms. Reece graduated from Piedmont College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She was a teacher with Baldwin Elementary and Hazel Grove Elementary with a combined total of 21 years of loyal and dedicated service. Ms. Reece was a member of the Habersham Retired Teachers Association, having served as President for two years. She was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Benevolent Committee, led the Children’s Choir, and served as WMU Director.
Survivors include her daughters, Hope Long and Melody Bryson, both of Mt. Airy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Mendel Gambrell and Sue and Vernon Watkins, all of Mt. Airy; sister-in-law, Mildred Connor of Columbia, SC; grandchildren: Carlitta Bryson, Jerrica Bryson, Maya Sullens, Tim Nicholson, and Crystal Camp; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Billy Burrell, Rev. Trent Smith, and Rev. Christian Trotter officiating. Interment will follow in Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the funeral home.
