The Piedmont women’s soccer team made a quick return to the field and played Florida College to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at the Walker Athletic Complex.
The two sides played an evenly matched contest in which the shot count was dead even at 17 apiece.
Both sides had a number of scoring chances in the first half but were unable to convert. The Falcons and Lions also had an even shot count in the first 45 minutes, at 11 each.
However, Florida College put more shots on frame, but Piedmont goalkeeper Maggie Leger came up with four saves to keep the Falcons off the board.
Midway through the second half, the Lions were able to break the scoreless tie, as sophomore Christina Sierra fed a pass that snuck through the Falcons defense that found the foot of Elissa Lotter, who delivered a blast from outside the box that found the top-middle of the net.
From there, the Falcons were undeterred and were able to equalize off a corner kick that was headed in by Victoria Fonseca in the 81st minute.
Both sides had a few looks in the final 10 minutes but were unable to convert the game-winner.
Up next, the Lions will return to CCS competition, hosting Covenant at the Walker Athletic Complex this Saturday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m.
