James W. Wright, age 98, of Cornelia, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2023.
Born on August 7, 1924, in Commerce, he was the son of the late Frank Wright and Ethel Shirley Wright. Mr. Wright served in the U. S. Army Corp. of Engineers and later worked in the poultry industry for 38 years and retired from Fieldale Corporation, where he was a general manager. James attended Commerce United Methodist Church and Cornelia United Methodist Church, and he was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church, where he taught the Adam & Eve Sunday School Class for many years. He was an avid gardener and planted his last garden at 91 years old, and enjoyed growing flowers in his nursery. Mr. Wright was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan. James was the last member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 77 years, Sara Frances Wright; son, Rev. Paul Wright.
Survivors include son and daughters-in-law, Fred Wesley Wright (Gayle) of Bogart and Wanda Wright of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Friday, July 7, 2023, at McGahee ~ Griffin & Stewart, with Dr. Brian James officiating. Interment will follow at Apple Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the service hour on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the funeral home.
