Jim Blackburn, age 81 of the Batesville Community passed away New Years Eve at his home with family by his side.
Mr. Blackburn is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Fran O’Shields Blackburn of Batesville, formerly of Winder; daughters and sons in law, Ginny and Mike Fontana of Braselton and Terri and David Todd of Batesville; nephew, Blake O’Shields of Atlanta; son and daughter in law Mike and Sherrie Blackburn of Commerce; brothers and sisters in law, Don and Janet Blackburn of Athens and John and Connie Blackburn of Lawrenceville; sisters and brothers in law, Denise and Don Bluster of Clarkesville and Shelba and Dean Jones of Clarkesville; as well as eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Mr. Blackburn was the son of the late Waymon and Cara Busee Burrell Blackburn. Following an accomplished 37 year career with AT&T, Jim and Fran retired to a home in his beloved North Georgia mountains. His hobbies included farming, golf, classic car restoration, local politics, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Blackburn was a member of Providence Baptist Church. Jimpa will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Dr. Don Drawdy officiating. Private interment will be in B.C. Grant Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM.
