James “J.C.” Stroud, age 94, of Cornelia, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.
Mr. Stroud was born on July 6, 1921 in Stephens County, Georgia to the late Luther and Annie Pearl Erwin Stroud. Mr. Stroud was a member of Lamar Christian Church. He was also a member of Woodmen of The World; and a life member of VFW post #7720 having been a United States World War II Veteran. He was owner and operator of Stroud Trucking Company. Mr. Stroud was an avid Gardner; he loved the outdoors and his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Annie Ruth Andrews Stroud; sisters, Myrtle Pritchett, Kathlene Stroud, Pauline Dooley; brothers, Leo Stroud, Reece Stroud, Hubert Stroud, Vernon Stroud, Bruce Stroud, Marion Stroud, and Alfred Stroud.
Survivors include his daughter and fiancé, Debbie Gabrels and Jeff Lanier, of Toccoa; son, Larry Stroud, of Copper Center, AK; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Pam Stroud, of Martin; and granddaughter, Jill Gabrels, of Gainesville.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 at Lamar Christian Church with Rev. Mark Stroud and Chad Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by The United States Army, Grant Reeves VFW post #7720, American Legion Post 84, and Rabun County D.A.V. #15.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel.
