James Harley “Jim” Ballew

His Lord said unto him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matthew 25:23)

James Harley “Jim” Ballew, age 69 of Scaly Mountain, North Carolina, passed away in the late evening of Thursday, June 30, 2022.

Born in Rabun County on July 30, 1952, Jim was the son of the late Lester and Velma Ballew. Jim was a man of deep faith, extremely high moral fabric, a servant’s heart, and a testimony that he would share with anyone he met. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trout fishing the backwaters of Western North Carolina and Northeast Georgia and deer hunting the woods of those same areas. Jim had a green thumb and could grow a plethora of flowers and an abundance of vegetables that he enjoyed sharing with others. Jim was a simple country man, his needs were few, his giving was plenty, and his love for Jesus and others shined through everything he done. He also enjoyed being amateur radio operator and went by the call sign “Slim Jim”.

Local survivors include sister, Martha Ballew Tolbert of Clarkesville, niece Michelle Tolbert Barron and husband Casey of Mt. Airy, nephew Brent Tolbert and wife Stephanie of Clarkesville, great nephews Grant Barron, Samuel Tolbert and Linton Tolbert, as well as many extended family and friends.

Following Jim’s request, a private graveside service was held on the morning of Saturday, June 2, 2022 at Hillside Gardens Cemetery in Clarkesville, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habersham Gideons – North Camp, PO Box 1855, Clarkesville, GA 30523.
