J.H. “Earl” Gibson, age 71 of Clarkesville, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Atlanta VA Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County on October 5, 1944, he was a son of the late Robert and Donnie Nations Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a construction worker, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was of the Baptist faith. He was a US Army veteran and a lifetime member of Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel House, Pearl Tomlin, and Hazel Nation; brothers, Bill, Paul, Gerald, Charlie, and Ernest Gibson.
Survivors include wife of 52 years, Jean Follett Gibson of Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-law, Robbie and Becky Gibson of Clarkesville & David and Pam Gibson of Clarkesville; sisters, Carolyn Martin of Clarkesville & Betty Winkler of Demorest; grandchildren, Matthew, Trey, and Todd Gibson; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Sunday, January 17, 2016, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Chad Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Grant Reeves VFW Post #7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter #15, and the Habersham County American Legion Post #84.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8:30 pm on Saturday.
