If the season-opening scrimmage is any indicator, the Indians are due in for an incredible season. TFS traveled on Friday evening to Clarke Central and the offense was electric, posting 17 runs in a 17-3 win.
Meanwhile, starting pitcher Aubrey Higgins looked solid, as did the defense, which committed just one error. The bats were hot, scoring 17 times on 14 hits. The offensive showcase included 8 extra-base hits.
Norman Bastian had 3 hits in as many at bats, drove in 3 runs, and added a walk. He had a pair of doubles, as did Frankey Moree, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and 3 runs scored.
Bastian had a 2-run double in the top of the first, and 2 runs crossed on passed balls as part of a 5-run first. After a Joel Miller leadoff triple in the second, Drew Bates brought him in with an RBI groundout. Moree doubled in a run, and Tyler Popham drove in Moree with a base hit to push the lead up to 8-0. Malique Charlton’s RBI double moments later made it 9-0, and when he scored on an error, the Indians took a dominant 10-0 lead.
Bastian and Popham had RBI doubles in the third and Kylar Clouatre drove in another as TFS held a 14-1 lead after the third frame. Clarke Central got a pair back in the home half, but Popham’s next RBI double drove in Moree. Popham scored later on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.
The Indians had 5 runs in both the first and second innings, had 4 in the third, and 3 in the fifth and final inning. Bastian and Popham both had 3 RBI, as 7 different Indians had hits. Popham also scored a game-high 4 runs. Higgins got a couple of innings in, striking out 5. Bates, Jeremy Medina, and Aiden Gragg finished off the game with 3 combined innings of work.
The Indians officially open the season February 14 against Rabun County at home.
