Funeral services for Helen Ellmae Ledford Lewis, age 83, of Turnerville will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM from the Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Austin Ivester and Rev. Tommy Childress officiating.
Interment will follow the service in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Turnerville and the family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6-9 PM.
Mrs. Lewis passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at her home.
Born on April 8, 1931 in Mountain Rest, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Howard Leroy Ledford, Sr. and the late Eva Mae Hooper Ledford, and the wife of the late William C. Lewis, Jr. She lived most of her adult life in Habersham County. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she sang alto in the choir. Mrs. Lewis was a member of the Turnerville Women’s Club and her favorite past time was cooking and feeding everyone that she could. She primarily worked in the restaurant and food service industry.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 42 years, sisters Wanda Pittman and Brenda Smith, and brother in law Paul Frankum.
Survivors include daughter Linda Ellen Turpin of the home, daughter and son in law Jannett and Bryan Payne of Demorest, granddaughters Lisa Ann Turpin of the home and Kelsey Leann Payne of Demorest, siblings Eugene Ledford (Pat) of Rabun County, Larry Ledford (Janice) of Hollywood, Carol Black (Bill) of Clarkesville, Martha Hazel (Chuck) of Hollywood, Katherine Ledford of Hollywood, Virginia Frankum of Clarkesville, Howard Ledford, Jr. (Judy) of Hollywood, Liz Sugg (Junior) of Hollywood, and Gail Stancil (Carol) of Toccoa, brothers in law Charles Pittman of Woodstock and Charles Smith of Toccoa, as well as a numerous nieces and nephews.
