Habersham deputy receives state DUI enforcement award

Habersham County Sheriff’s Corporal Dakota Foster is doing his part to keep local roads safe. He just received a state award for making 42 DUI arrests.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) awarded Foster this year’s Northeast Traffic Enforcement Network (NETEN) DUI Patrol Award.

Cpl. Foster is among several area law enforcement officers who were recently honored. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety held its NETEN awards banquet on November 14 at the Gainesville Civic Center.

The Hall County/Gainesville H.E.A.T. Unit swept the traffic awards. All three members of the unit took home honors based on their performance in the areas of enforcement, awareness, and education.

  • Gainesville Police Officer Larry Sanford – Occupant Safety Awareness Award
  • Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Cooksey – Speed Awareness Award
  • Hall County Sheriff’s Deputy John Thompson – Impaired Driving Awareness Award

H.E.A.T. (highway enforcement of aggressive traffic) teams patrol roadways across the state to keep motorists safe from aggressive and impaired drivers.

The Hall County/Gainesville H.E.A.T. Unit is one of more than two dozen such units around the state. All of them are supported by GOHS through grant funding.
