Greg Jenkins

obit flagGreg Jenkins, age 70 of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016.

Born in Dayton, Ohio on October 8, 1945, he was a son of the late Jack and Ruth Schuyler Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins was retired from United Parcel Service (UPS), where he was a driver and later became a supervisor. He was also currently employed as a courier with The Northeast Georgian.

He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam from June 1966 to July 1967. Mr. Jenkins was very patriotic and currently served with the Habersham County Veterans Wall of Honor as well as being the co-coordinator of the Northeast Georgia Veterans and Patriots Group.  

Mr. Jenkins was an active member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Cornelia, where he was also a member of the Cornerstone Sunday School. In his spare time, he enjoyed his 1932 Ford Roadster antique hot rod, photography, and journaling. He was a loving husband, father, “Pop”, brother, brother-in-law, and friend.

Surviving are loving wife of 38 years, Margaret James Jenkins of Mt. Airy; children, Lori & Jamie Karnes of Canton, Scott Jenkins & Janet Kinsey of Demorest, Sam & Krista Ivester of Mt. Airy, and Stacy & Robyn Ivester of Piney Flats, TN; brother, Tom Jenkins of Kettering, OH; sisters, Jackie Munsey of Topsham, Maine, Pam Weaver of Brookville, OH, and Jodi Blacklidge of New Carlisle, OH; brother-in-law and spouse, Tommy & Brenda James of Mt. Airy; sister-in-law and spouse, Sherry & Ted Roberts of Maysville; grandchildren, Cole, Caleb, Carson, William, Kendall, Clayton, Jacob, Julianne, Mason, and Garrett; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Cornelia with Dr. Kenneth Franklin, Rev. David Turner, and Dr. Eric Spivey officiating. Interment will follow in the VFW Memorial Park with military honors provided by the United States Air Force.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5-8 pm on Monday.
