Funeral Saturday for Clarkesville postal worker killed by falling tree

Funeral services are scheduled Saturday for a Clarkesville postal carrier who was killed on the job when a tree fell on her vehicle.

36-year-old Zekeiah “Nikki” Cole Hunt died Monday when the tree crushed the top of her 2003 Honda Element as she traveled along her rural mail route near Hollywood, Georgia.

Cole Hunt was a native of Habersham County. She was a wife and mother of three. She began working as a U.S. Postal Carrier in 2005 and recently was elected as National Rural Letter Carriers of America Union Steward for the Clarkesville Post Office.

Her untimely death stunned the local community because of how it happened. Her passing saddened the community because of her kind and generous spirit. “All of Nikki’s customers and coworkers were a part of her extended family and will forever be changed by her electric smiling spirit,” her obituary reads. “She was the true embodiment of service with a smile and believed that the work she’s done would speak for her.”

That sentiment was echoed on social media as news of her death spread.

Cole Hunt’s funeral is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Mt. Airy. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the church located at 487 Dicks Hill Parkway, Mt. Airy, Georgia 30563.
