Frances McMillian Ivie Blackburn, age 91, of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at her residence.
Born on May 18, 1924, in Demorest, she was a daughter of the late William Frank and Mary Elizabeth Taylor McMillian. Mrs. Blackburn was a homemaker and a member of Cornelia United Methodist Church. She was active in the community, volunteering with Habersham Medical Center Auxillary, Sharing and Caring, and Habersham Soup Kitchen. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and traveling in her spare time.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blackburn was also preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Lee Ivie and W.J. “Blackie” Blackburn; sons, Mickey, Billy, Bobby and Mark Ivie; grandson, Mitch Ivie.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Larry Pless of Cornelia; step sons, James W., John T., and Donald B. Blackburn; step daughters, Shelba Blackburn Jones and Denise Blackburn Bluster; sister, Alice Jane Scroggs of Baldwin; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are 11 am Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Dr. Jay Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
