Former HCLC director, school board member recovering after wreck

Sylvia Palmer was seriously injured in an automobile accident Tuesday. Friends say her injuries are not life threatening.

A wreck Tuesday morning seriously injured the former director of the Habersham Christian Learning Center. Sylvia Palmer is well known in the community for her work with the learning center as well as her time on the Habersham County Board of Education.

The wreck happened shortly before 10 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of GA 365 and Duncan Bridge Road.

The 84-year-old Palmer was  traveling west on Duncan Bridge Road in a Buick Park Avenue. She was attempting to cross the highway when a northbound Dodge Caravan ran the red light and hit her car on the left side, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Both vehicles ended up in the southbound lanes.

EMS transported Palmer to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. A post on the HCLC Facebook page Wednesday asked for prayers for Palmer. “She is in the hospital but NO life threatening injuries,” the post states.

The driver of the van, 24-year-old Tyler Beezley of Gainesville, and his front seat passenger, 21-year-old Morgan Bethany Reed of Alto, sustained minor injuries. They were also transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.

The State Patrol says charges are pending.
