Football Friday Scoreboard: Week 5

Here’s a look at your Northeast Georgia area high school football matchups for Friday, October 2.

Habersham Central 12, Stephens County 27 (Final)

Stephens and Habersham shook off a scoreless first half with a flurry of second half scores. Ben Stowe threw 3 TDs and rushed for another, and Gamarion Carter had 2 TD as the Indians scored 20 unanswered for the big rivalry win. The Raiders were led by Joshua Pickett’s 2 TDs (one passing, one rushing). Brian Carter captured the highlights on BLITZ Sports.

The Raiders drop to 2-2 on the season as the Indians improve their record to 4-1.

Banks County 13, Fannin County 49

The Fannin Rebels used home turf advantage to their advantage Friday night to beat back the Leopards in a big way. Banks County (1-4) went into the game with last week’s momentum from their first win, but it wasn’t enough to carry them past a 36-point spread.

#1 Jefferson 26, #10 Hart County 19

The Dragons held off a huge comeback attempt by Hart County. Jefferson held a 12-0 halftime lead. Jordan Perry forced a fumble that Kaden Bailey for the first TD. Malaki Starks threw 3 TDs, one to Dawson Crawley and two to Spencer Neese. A 19-6 lead going into the fourth was tested, as Hart County scored 13 in the fourth to pull within 26-19.

Pickens 14, Union County 28

After a scoreless first quarter, Union’s Walker had an 18-yd TD to give the Panthers a lead. Pickens tied it before the break, and Logan Helcher threw a 16-yd go-ahead TD to Underwood for the 14-7 lead. Helcher had a pair of TD runs to make it 28-7, and Union won 28-14. They move to 2-2 after starting the year 0-2.

Lumpkin County 7, St. Francis 35

It’s been a rough go for Lumpkin County (0-4). After losing handily to Towns and Banks counties, the Indians had hoped to jumpstart their season Friday away at St. Francis. It didn’t happen. The Indians were down only 14-7 at the half, but St. Francis went on a tear in the second half. Lumpkin trailed 21-7 after three and fell 35-7.

Towns County 12, Lakeview 31

Towns County (2-3) lost by an eyelash last week, but can’t say the same for Week 5. Lakeview bounced all over the Indians, and Kyle Oakes added a TD run as time expired for Towns County, 31-12.
