Fire breaks out in Homer home

There were no injuries but extensive damage in a single-family house in Homer Monday.

Firefighters responded to the afternoon fire at 365 Athens Street. They arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the residence.

Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols says firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and made quick work of the blaze, however, the structure sustained heavy damage. He says the occupant was home when the fire broke out.

The cause of the blaze was deemed accidental, due to a possible electrical malfunction.

Banks County Fire and Emergency Services assisted the City of Homer. Firefighters from Lee Arrendale State Prison and the Jackson County Fire Department also provided mutual aid.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
