Driver faces DUI charges after rollover wreck on Fairview School Road

A Lula man faces drug-related DUI charges after a rollover wreck in west Habersham County. 23-year-old Devin Mullinax was behind the wheel of a Jeep Cherokee that overturned on Fairview School Road near Dixon Road Wednesday around 5:21 p.m., officials say.

“He ran off the road, hit a culvert, rolled over at least one time, maybe more, we’re still investigating that part, and he was still in the vehicle upon the arrival of fire and EMS,” says Habersham County Sheriff’s Lt. Floyd Canup.

According to Canup, officers determined Mullinax was driving under the influence. In addition to DUI, HCSO Public Information Officer Kevin Angell says Mullinax also faces possible charges for illegal narcotics possession. Mullinax had outstanding arrest warrants for heroin possession and DUI at the time of the crash.

No one else was involved in the wreck. Mullinax sustained minor injuries. Habersham EMS transported him to Habersham Medical Center in good condition.

“These types of drivers are dangerous to all motorists and the reason our HEAT Unit is so proactive,” Angell says, referring to HCSO’s Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic patrol unit.

The wreck happened near old Fairview Elementary School, approximately 3.5 miles north of where a Demorest woman was killed in a wreck Monday evening.
