CLEVELAND — White County law enforcement and first responders are set to receive bonuses for their work during the pandemic. Eligible full-time employees will receive $1,000 and volunteers will receive $300. The one-time benefit is being funded through CARES Act money the county received.
White County Commission Chairman Travis Turner announced earlier this week that the county had received the funding. The extra compensation is for work performed through August 31, 2021.
The bonuses will go to law enforcement officers, jail officers, communication officers, firefighters – full-time or volunteer – including those requiring certification through POST (Peace Officers Standards in Training) or GFSTC (Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training) and who were actively certified prior to August 31, 2021.
According to White County Clerk Shanda Murphy, 112 full-time county employees and 23 volunteer firefighters have qualified for the bonuses. The county will receive a total of $127,995.85, which includes FICA matching funds.
Turner told White County Sheriff Rick Kelley and Public Safety Director David Murphy to share the news with their employees.
“We are tickled to be a part of this and thank you for the hard work that all your staff has done,” he said, “especially over the last couple of years in the middle of the pandemic.”
