Doris Church Stephens, age 88, of Cornelia, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
Mrs. Stephens was born on December 5, 1932, in Habersham, Georgia, to the late Len and Lillian Pitts Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Charlie Stephens; brother, Leonard Church. Mrs. Stephens was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. She had retired from Standard Telephone with 46 years of loyal service. Her grandchildren were her life. They called her “Nanny.” She cherished family time and always made sure everyone was taken care of. She loved to spend time collecting angels and studying God’s word.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Rick Burton, of Cleveland; grandchildren, David and Brittany Ballew, of Cleveland; Wendy and Stephen Cain, of Clarkesville; great-grandchildren, Tori, Eli, Emme, and Charlie Cain; Mackenzie and Cayden Ballew; brothers and sisters-in-love, Johnny Walker, Martha Harries, Shirley Strickland, and Louise Smith.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to her beloved caregivers, Connie Fowler, Sharon Jones, Tammara Farris.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2021, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, with Pastor Kevin Mangum officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
