Dewayne Lee Burton, age 65, of Alto, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
Born in Habersham County on October 23, 1958, Dewayne was the son of the late Joe and Vivian Nix Burton. Dewayne was a Firefighter and EMT for almost 40 years. His career started at Baldwin Fire Department and then went to Hall County Fire Services in 1989 and he retired in 2017. Dewayne had the heart of a true servant and was a respected leader amongst his peers and co-workers. He adored his grandchildren and wanted most to be surrounded by those he loved. He and Sandra also enjoyed spending time together at the beach, listening to the waves, and watching the ships come in. Dewayne was a member and usher at Tates Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Edwards Burton of Alto, daughter Lacrecia Burton of Alto; daughter and son-in-law Leann and Adryan Hawkins of Cornelia; bonus daughters Paula Norris, Lynn Dodd, Tammy Prater, Margaret Hall, and Candece Prine; sister and brother-in-law Debra and Bobby Edwards of Waycross, grandchildren Zeke Burton, Xander Wiley, Warren Jackels, Adelyn Hawkins, Marek Hawkins, and Victoria Jackels, as well as numerous extended family members and many friends.
Funeral services with Firefighter Honors will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Tates Creek Baptist Church in Toccoa, with Dr. Wayne Edwards and Pastor Jerrell Beatty officiating. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
