With Habersham County’s new 911 tower nearing completion, the city of Cornelia approved the purchase of more than 70 handheld and vehicle radios for all first responders, both police and firefighters, during a regular meeting Tuesday, May 6.
The 79 radios, needed for purposes of compatibility with the new tower, come at a cost of $390,000, paid for through SPLOST funds, according to city officials.
Following approval, city officials said first responders are expected to have the radios in hand by the end of the year.
The city’s old radios will likely be sold at a later time.
