Memorial services for Col. Cecil E. Moore will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 with the funeral services beginning shortly thereafter at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville, GA. The burial service will take place at Chapel of the Holy Cross cemetery on New Liberty Road. Col. Moore died peacefully at nearly 95 years of age on February 1, 2015.
Son of the late Walter E. and Mary Moore of Sylacauga, AL, The Colonel enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1939. During his 26 years of service he was awarded a number of medals and citations including the Bronze Star with combat “V” for meritorious service during the battle for Okinawa in 1945. In 1965 he retired from the Marine Corps and realized his life-long dream of running a successful beef cattle operation in Habersham County, Georgia.
Col. Moore was an avid golfer and hunter – but will perhaps be remembered most for the numerous hiking trails he blazed in the woods and mountains of northeast Georgia. He was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Flowery Branch, GA.
His was a life lived with honor, integrity and love for God, his country and his family.
Col. Moore is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary B. Moore; 2 daughters, Molly Moore and Flo Becker; a son, Boyd Moore; and three grandchildren, Lisa Becker, Levi Moore and Jon Moore.
