Clifton Avery Stroud, age 86, of Habersham County, GA, died Sunday, December 2, 2018 from complications of a stroke in October.
Avery was born on June 4, 1932 to the late Luther & Annie Pearl Erwin Stroud. Avery was a Navy veteran, a graduate of Piedmont College, and an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He had a distinguished career with Blue Cross Blue Shield for 30 years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Farrow Williams Stroud; his former wife, Edith Franklin Stroud; his sisters: Myrtle Pritchett, Kathleen Stroud, and Pauline Dooley; and his brothers: Leo Stroud, Reece Stroud, Hubert Stroud, Vernon Stroud, Bruce Stroud, Marion Stroud, Alfred Stroud, and J.C. Stroud.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Carol Stroud and Wayne and Mary Ann Stroud; daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Steve Thomas; step-sons, who were truly like his own, and their spouses: Ron and Nancy Williams, Richard and Darlene Williams, Byron and Emily Williams, and Ben and Leslie Williams; and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Jean Stroud. He was a very proud, loving Papa to 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 7, 2018, at the funeral home.
