(Cleveland)- The Cleveland City Council has voted to update the city’s charter.
During a final public hearing on the issue Monday night, Jan. 13, City Administrator Kevin Harris said they began working on the update last May after the council prioritized it. The proposal was made public last September.
“The bottom line is, this just trues up our charter in line with what we need to move forward,” said Hairrs. “A lot of it is changing things – simply changing titles to sort of mirror what more governments look like in 2024 or 2025 as opposed to what they previously [looked] like 10 or 20 years ago.”

The council approved the updated charter, which the Georgia General Assembly must now approve before it can take effect.
Harris said he would immediately contact local legislators to move it through the current session, which got underway Monday.
