Bayne Richard “Dick” Bunce

obit flag largeBayne Richard “Dick” Bunce, age 85 died Friday, September 25th in the home he built surrounded by his family & friends.

Born February 8th, 1930 at the US Embassy compound in Ham Heung, Korea to Dr. Arthur & Beatrice Bunce (Foreign Economic Minister for US Diplomatic Missions). Mr. Bunce attended Pickering college in Canada, he attended Auburn and received his Masters in Political Science from the University of Virginia. He received a Navy ROTC scholarship and joined the USN in 1954. In 1974 he retired as Lt.Cmdr. and moved to Clarksville, Georgia in 1975 . He served as City Manager of Clarksville for 7 years and was instrumental in the planning and development of Pitts Park. He was very active in his church, volunteered at Sharing & Caring, and worked as tax coordinator with AARP.

He is survived by his wife Sandy of 40 years, 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild Brecken Mixon. He loved his wife, his family, and his dog Wendy. He is survived by his brother Tom and his wife Barbara of Rye Beach, New Hampshire. Dick was a happy person who enjoyed deep discussions, loved the farm and was proud to raise children in this environment.

Children are Drs. Janie and Jim Black, Austin, Texas: grandchildren Jordan, Elizabeth & Nelson. Bayne & Maryanne Bunce, San Diego, California: grandchildren Katie Holle, Emily and Allison. Bryce & Maria Bunce Dover Delaware: grandchildren Sage and Nile. Betsy & John Griner, Norcross, Georgia: Ryan and Jackie. William “Mickey” Mixon, Clarksville, Georgia: grandchildren Brett,Tyler, Cody. Daughter and son-in-law Aedin and Mike Oren, Demorest, Georgia: grandchildren Alex, Kelly and Michael Oren.

The family will receive friends at Hillside Memorial Chapel Funeral Home Sunday, September 27th from 1-4 PM. Services will be held October 10 at 1 p.m. at Grace Calvary Episcopal Church in Clarkesville.
