Habersham County is one of several Northeast Georgia school systems that will be closed Friday due to expected severe weather from Tropical Storm Nicole.
The storm system is moving north from Florida. It’s expected to bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall to the northern half of the state by late Thursday into Friday afternoon.
“Our local emergency management agency advises that our county could see wind gusts high enough to affect school buses, student drivers, bring down trees, and cause power outages. So, we are going to play it safe tomorrow and keep everyone off the roadways,” says Habersham County School Superintendent Matthew Cooper.
Schools in Banks, Stephens, and White counties will also be closed to students and staff on Friday.
A notice on the Rabun County Schools website says schools will be closed Friday, but 12-month employees should report to work at 10 a.m. if safe to do so.
