A man wanted in Habersham was arrested in Hall County after authorities say he fled from police into Lake Lanier, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, authorities say police identified the suspect’s vehicle on Jesse Jewell Parkway at Crescent Drive.
After noticing the deputy, the suspect now identified as Nathan Terry Couch, 42, of Gainesville, pulled onto the shoulder and began passing other vehicles on the right, according to authorities.
A deputy initiated a traffic stop, but Couch allegedly refused to pull over and continued down the road.
Couch then turned right onto White Sulphur Road, then left onto Huntington Drive, before the deputy ceased the pursuit.
A short time later, deputies located the suspect’s car on Cleveland Highway near the Longstreet Bridge.
Couch allegedly fled on foot into Lake Lanier, where he was apprehended by deputies without further incident. Couch is in custody, and since being booked into the Habersham County Jail, faces charges related to warrants.
