Myrtice Pitts Hunter, age 84, of Gainesville, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
She was born on October 24, 1938, in Travelers Rest, South Carolina and raised in Mt. Airy, Georgia by her parents, the late Judd Lester Pitts and Sadie Addis Pitts. Mrs. Hunter retired from Phillips Correctional Institute as a school secretary. She began her performing career at the age of 14, when she played piano and organ for her dad’s Sunday radio ministry. Since then, she has enjoyed music and playing for numerous churches she attended. Mrs. Hunter was a member of Chicopee Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She also enjoyed dancing, sewing, and fellowshipping with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Jackson Hunter, Sr; brothers, Lester Pitts and Clyde Pitts; and sister, Mildred Ayers.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Tommy “Butch” Hunter, Jr. and Kendyl of Cleveland and Casey Hunter of Cleveland; daughter and son-in-law, Debby Krebs and David of Fresno, CA; grandchildren: Tori Hunter, Sarah Hunter, Lilly Hunter, Lauren Clark, Kristian Krebs, Will Brock, Reagan Brock, Rachel Brock, and Robert Brock; and brother and sister-in-law, Don Pitts and Janice of Cornelia.
Funeral services are scheduled for 6:00 pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.
