Angie Claridy Mankin

Angie Claridy Mankin, a Griffin, Spalding County resident, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2022.

Angie was born in Griffin, Georgia on July 22, 1927, and graduated from Griffin High School. During her summers she took the train to New York City to study classical voice with her Aunt Annie Ellis, a music teacher
herself. Angie then went on to study music at The University of Georgia where she obtained a BFA in voice. She married Jimmy Mankin much to her aunt’s protests and had three children; Jimmy, Angela, and Claire Ann. Angie became the choir director of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Griffin and continued this position for over 60 years. But her biggest contribution to life was teaching piano and voice to the young and not so young in Griffin. She was in excellent health her entire life except for the last week of her life and passed peacefully in the presence of her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. George’s Episcopal Church, 132 North 10th Street, Griffin, GA 30273.

A memorial service will be held in the early summer at St. George’s.
