Baldwin’s fourth annual fall festival begins this Saturday, and after the COVID-19 pandemic brought an unexpected halt to last year’s festivities, the city is gearing up for this year’s festival to be bigger than ever.
“It’s a new day in Baldwin,” Baldwin City Clerk Emily Woodmaster says. “Everyone is excited, there is a contagious atmosphere of new excitement.”
This city plans to have more vendors than ever before and is even looking forward to food trucks attending from as far away as Atlanta. So far, the festival has over 40 vendors, ranging from artists to bait and tackle, signed up to attend.
The city has a few firsts that attendees can look forward to this year, like the inaugural Runway 5k and Curahee Crawl Jeep Ride. Activities that citizens have loved from years past, such as pumpkin bowling, photobooths and a hayride will be back this year, too.
Childrens’ activities will also be available. Kids can look forward to face painting, balloon animals, arts and crafts, glitter “tattoos,” bounce houses and more.
The free festival begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23 in the city’s farmer’s market on Airport Road, next to Hairport Beauty Salon in Baldwin. The event will go until 4 p.m. to give attendees plenty of time to check out all the activities the city has in store.
“I think we offer something more unique than other communities, and that’s we work with what we’ve got,” Woodmaster says. “We do have an area, a space where people can come and be, and it’s going to be a really good time.”
Woodmaster says this year’s festival is something that the city employees and elected officials have put a lot of work into, and are ready to gather together as a community once again after more than a year of spending time apart.
“It’s been a long year and a half,” says Woodmaster. “To be able to rally [together] and have everyone come together, and have the community come out and offer something that’s free and fun and gets people interacting again— that, honestly, I’m most excited about.”
